Alex Seacourt is a doctor of internal medicine.
He is also a man who has the unfortunate habit of being in the wrong place at the worst of times, creating the adventures depicted in the three-book series.
Growing up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and attending university and medical school in that state, , Seacourt did his internship at a hospital in Las Vegas before being offered a position at a major facility in Salt Lake City. Loving skiing as much as he did, he was thrilled and happy. It is there he is working, at the beginning of the series.
Seacourt, now in his late 30's, would never have imagined the kind of adventures he would soon have, thinking of himself as a very competent doctor and a man with an enjoyable but hardly exciting life. He was single and pleased with it. He was quite successful in his field of Internal Medicine and had no desire to live anywhere else or do anything else. "Mild-mannered" was the expression that came to mind when speaking about Seacourt and it fit as he was of normal height and weight, no special physical ability, a naturally calm and sedate demeanor, and not at all wanting to be anyway else.
It was an accident that got him involved in the first case but, as the series progresses, his reputation increases and so do his options and he finds himself in more of an international role while not giving up his day job.
The adventures he gets involved with naturally are connected to his expertise, namely internal medicine, and range from major radiation poisoning to viral infections of an epidemic nature.
