Dr. James Lowe is an agent with the FBI.
He is a secret agent with that organization. That is what we are told, repeatedly. I was not aware that the Bureau had secret agents (not counting those undercover) but Lowe is one; we know this because that is what he clearly tells people, seemingly without hesitation.
Lowe is described as "in his mid-thirties ... six feet tall, strongly built, a blond with bluish green eyes. He looked handsome - like [the actor] Christopher Reeve". That description goes in opposition to the images we are show of him in which he clearly has dark hair but perhaps he is in disguise. Also, other places has his height as 6'2". We are told in a writer's note that as a boy he had been "slim and skinny and easily caught cold" so he was sent by his father to learn tai-kwon-do at age eight. In time he "grew strong and tough both physically and mentally" and his love of 'boxing' never faltered; he even won an international boxing contest in Macau in 2005 making him famous in the boxing world.
"James went through the undergrad and then the grad school in electronic engineering specialized in invisibility. He earned his doctorate degree and worked as an associate professor and researcher in invisibility study in the Duke University but his students and colleagues frequently laughed at him being more a boxer then a university teacher." Since even as a very young boy he had dreams of being James Bond, he decided after a while teaching at Duke to apply for a job with the FBI and was surprised and pleased to be hired and made 'a senior investigator' immediately. "To hide his new job nature, James still kept his identity as a university professor and a researcher in invisibility; he asked for a year of no pay leave."
As a secret agent for the FBI, Lowe will find himself involved in a very wide range of clandestine activities, going up against a division of the Hells Angels in Canada using invisibility to smuggle pure heroin into the States, combating Al-Qaida and Taliban terrorists, and even stopping the explosion of an old USSR nuke in a major U.S. city, brought there by North Korean agents. And that is just in the first recorded adventure!
One of those North Korean agents, a beautiful woman named Kim Chon Sill who was also a nuclear engineer, switches sides, helps Lowe defuse the bomb, and then later marries the intrepid hero.

- When a gang of woman capture a man and ponder what to do with him, one proclaims, "We are going to kill this handsome guy brutally".
- In explaining how the man just mentioned would be eliminated, the woman explains, "I am going to whip this guy up with my leather-whip for an hour or two and then I am going to force him to make love with me and nine of our other young women until he die".
