Amy Cornwall is an agent with the CIA.
At least she will be.
When we first meet her she is an officer with the U.S. Army Intelligence. She tells us early on that "I've been through basic, extended basic, two infantry tours in Iraq, and was one of the first women to make it through US Army Ranger training. In the past few years, I've gone face-to-face with some of the most dangerous people in the world, interviewing Al-Qaeda, ISIS, and Taliban men (always men!) who looked at me with such hate from their black and brown eyes that it has caused terrible dreams at night and paranoia during the day; I am always looking over my shoulder."
Later, when certain events will make staying with the military not a remote possibility, she will pick up a card given to her by a shadowy figure she deals with in the first recorded adventure and before too long, she is part of the Agency doing work quite similar to what she had already been doing for some years.
As she then describes, "I'm originally from Maine, then went into the Army, and now I'm the lead officer for this squad of the CIA's highly classified Special Activities Division - a very bland name for a very dangerous job. We go in way behind enemy lines, kill bad guys, then get the hell out. Along the way, we work very, very hard to ensure that our names and activities never appear in the newspapers. Considering I'm married to a journalist, that can sometimes be a challenge."
That spouse is Tom, a reporter and a writer. Together they created Denise, their daughter who is now ten years old.
