ABOUT THE SERIES

Nick Baron is a Major with the U.S. Air Force.

He has earned his bars through meritorious service for well over a decade in that branch of the military, a fair number of those years spent as "a field operative of the Triple Seven Chase squadron".

That detachment is said to have been in existence since shortly after the 9/11 attack and the start of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. While its inaugural mission had been less than stellar in results, we are told that the next decade had been "ten years of training and fighting, of turning the Triple Seven Chase from a quiet embarrassment into the most effective clandestine unit in the DoD". If you have not heard of it, do not be surprised; it was said of the group that it was "the last Tier One special mission unit still unspoiled by Wikipedia".

Its HQ is named Romeo Seven and is five stories beneath Andrews Air Force Base; the facility was constructed from a defunct presidential bunker and boasted a wealth of resources, including a well-stocked clinic, an engineering lab, and its own freshwater supply.

Baron is one of the two main pilots attached to Triple Seven. He had been a Lieutenant stationed in Germany when the Towers fell and was always pushing to be given a chance to fly in action. He got his wish with the creation of Triple Seven and his transfer into the elite Stealth Wing and membership in a new covert team.

Baron is described as 6' tall with a slender by muscular frame, blond hair and steely blue eyes. He is married to Katy, his beautiful wife who has to suffer for some time with having no idea of the type of work that her husband has been assigned to do, and then later, when some of the details are finally revealed to her by his boss, she has to worry even more when he is called away.

MY COMMENTS

Nick Baron is first and always an Air Force pilot, IMHO. Everything else comes as a distant second in his list of priorities. Still, he does get involved in a fair amount of intelligence work so his membership in this compendium is definitely warranted. I just want to make sure that any potential reader - and there should be a good number of them because this is an exciting series - knows that Baron is a pilot first and a spy, well, kinda third with no second in between, if you get my drift.

It has been nearly a decade since the second of the two main adventures came out so I would not be expecting there to be a third.
