Katla Sieltjes is a freelance assassin.
She kills people. Anyone is game. Nobody is immune.
She does it for money only - there is no patriotic fervor that makes her put her life at risk to take the life of some enemy of the state. She has no interest in politics, causes, or goals. Except to make money. And not get caught.
A factor that has helped her stay for the most part under the radar is that she has a specialty which makes her very much in demand and often overlooked afterwards. She tries to kill in such a way as to make investigators end up ruling natural causes or unfortunate accidents. If no one thinks there has been a crime, no one goes looking for a criminal.
Europe is the area that Sieltjes plies her trade. Mostly she prefers to work in her native Netherlands and in such a big city as Amsterdam, there is enough work available to keep some like her busy but she will travel when needed and when the price is right. When we first meet her she is just returning to Holland from the States.
One thing she most definitely is not is an operative for an intelligence organization and has never wanted to be. She is, however, very much someone a few in such departments for more than one country would love to be able to talk to. Or failing that, get rid of. Though she is for the most part still in the shadows with no one really having a bead on her, her results have spoken volumes and angered a considerable amount of people working for an alphabet bureau.
[It is really for that reason she has an entry in this compendium. So many agents contained herein go after international assassins because of important people they have taken out. She is one of those sought.]
A couple of interesting comments from her during the first recorded adventure tell a great deal about this young woman who kills so easily and with no conscience afterwards:
- "To hone skills, it is necessary to exercise them."
- When asked if she was trying to make a joke, she responds, "I wouldn't know. I'm not a comedian".
