Lucie Musilova is an agent with the Overlappers.
I was instantly intrigued with that unusual name for an organization, in this case a department in the British Intelligence community. When Lucie, very much new to the group, inquires of one of its senior members "what the hell are the Overlappers", that person replies, "we're exactly what it says on the tin really. Strictly speaking, Five deal with internal security while Six handle external affairs. Occasionally though there will be threats more indeterminate in source and cross boundary in nature that require a more independent eye, and that's where we come in." A further inquiry by Musilova as to why MI5 and MI6 do not just create a joint team for such matters, that person smiles and states, "Five and Six don't really play well together, mainly because they're two cheeks of the same arse." Musilova, being who she is, observed that it made the Overlappers "the bit in the middle".
Musilova is a "tall, slim, striking woman with dark hair reaching down her back" who is, and this is unique among the members of this compendium, "quite versatile with the harmonica, used to qualm heighted nerves, and once used when she was part an impromptu musical group back in Bury blasting out rock covers and blues standards to audiences of varying levels of intoxication'."
When she is pretty much forced into joining the Overlappers, her not so pleasant new boss recounts her history as "Thirty-five years old, born to a Czech mother and a British father who remained unmarried. Parents deceased, the father from testicular cancer, the mother in suspicious circumstances which remain unresolved. Childhood spent between both countries, leaving you fluent in both languages as well as Slovak, Polish and a smattering of Hungarian. Prior to your tour of duty with the Merchant Navy and the current... unpleasantness..."
"Prior to your tour with the Merchants, you trained as a Military Chaplain with the RAF and served in Afghanistan for a time. During which time, you were injured in action - your right knee, I believe - were awarded the George Cross for heroism and immediately afterwards resigned both your Commission and your Holy Orders..."
The time as a Chaplain will play a role in her adventures as she is a believer that 'Thou shalt not kill'. Unfortunately, most of those whom she goes up against do not feel the same way.
