Kate Finch is an agent with STIX.
She is, more specifically, an assassin for that organization. She works for a woman named Geneva who enjoys monitoring her missions via a special camera in the glasses Finch puts on during an assignment. Finch is told by Geneva Hopkins, not for the first time, that Finch was her best agent - quite true - but Geneva gets annoyed at how Finch will cut a job very close to danger.
We learn that STIX is a private intelligence company which operated on a level of stealth other organizations didn't. And Geneva always told us that's why she employed women far more than men. "Because we understood how to keep things classy. How to slip in, get the job done, and get out. Men, she always said, enjoyed explosions. While women? Well, we enjoyed finesse. Which was something STIX was prized for after she took over. After she fires most of the men in the ranks".
Finch has worked diligently for STIX since she was recruited at the age of 18. "Young. Angry. Ripped away from my drug-addicted mother at only three years of age, only to be an unwanted kid in the system." She had been in jail, arrested for beating the daylights out of a jerk who had roofied her drink in a bar and tried to take advantage of that (he failed and paid a price for it). STIX - Geneva - had seen to her release and then the tremendous training to make her the deadly weapon she was now.
She is described as beautiful, extremely sexy through her athleticism. Raven-black hair contrasting wonderfully against her creamy skin. She speaks with sultry low tones. Until we start following her adventures, she had had no interest in any sort of relationship outside of an occasional one-night assignation. That is, until she met James.
James Roe is a reporter for a television station. He has been there a short while after leaving the military after a knee injury could not be fixed well enough to let him keep serving. He had planned to make the Service his career but now he is a bit lost as to what he really wants to do. Of course, there are the occasional odd jobs he does for finding people. Roe is exceptionally good at that.
Together, unexpectedly, they find in each other a partner worth staying around for.
