Kade Black is an agent with the FBI.
A former agent, to be more accurate, as we find in the opening of the first recorded adventure.
He is very soon going to be a former agent in a lot of trouble and there will be an entire federal law enforcement agency with considerable expertise and capabilities out after him for something he is guiltless. That will not stop them from hunting - they believe him guilty - so it will not stop him from trying to elude him.
Now, as thrilling and suspenseful as that sounds (and it is), it would not normally make Kade Black a candidate for membership in this compendium. What does qualify him and his adventures is the fact that at the root of Black's troubles with the Bureau is a very "cagey" Russian operative. That man's name is Sergei Zelenkov and he will prove to be a very capable opponent.
Black grew up with a father who insisted on living on the land, foraging as needed, and he taught his son the same skills. When Black left the "remote cabins and lonely trails" of his youth for civilization and actual contact with people, he swore he was done with that hermit lifestyle. Unfortunately, to survive the manhunt against him, he will find himself back there on more than one occasion and surprisingly pleased with his survival instincts. It is fortunate that Black has kept himself in remarkable shape, partially through being a fan of competing in "backcountry ultramarathons".
He will need that superb conditioning considering that he has an entire government law enforcement bureau, and all of its connections to local police forces, out to bring him in one way or another.
