Ike Schwartz is a county sheriff.
The town which comprises the majority of the population of the Virginia county of Rockbridge is Picketsville, and Schwartz, who has been all over the world doing a lot of things he would rather forget, hails from that community and when he needed a place to get away from all those things, that is where he chose to return. Since a man cannot just live doing nothing and because there was a need for a new sheriff, that is what he chose.
We are told in a blurb which does a pretty good job of introducing him to us, ""Ike Schwartz thought he could return to his hometown and ditch the demons that pursue him. More than anything, he wanted to blot out the pain and anger that came when his wife of less than a month was gunned down in a CIA foul-up. So he buried himself as sheriff in rural Picketsville, Virginia, a community indistinguishable from any of the hundreds of small towns that hang like beads on Interstate 81 running from Pennsylvania down to Georgia."
Much of the activity that we will follow in the numerous adventures we have of Schwartz and his very interesting and realistic county is quite unrelated to the cloak-and-dagger work that Schwartz was involved with back in his CIA days. Rebellious teens, unruly drunks, incidents of infidelity-turned-violent, and the occasional 'he needed killin' take up most of his day-to-day time.
But there are other occasions, enough to warrant membership in this compendium, where 6'2", 200 lbs. highly trained and skilled and capable Ike Schwartz will be pulled back into his old life or it will come calling all on its own.
