X Company is a group of five operatives on the Allies side during World War II.
We are told in an informative press blurb: "X Company is an emotionally driven adventure drama, set in the thrilling and dangerous world of WWII espionage and covert operations. It follows the stories of five highly skilled young recruits - Canadian, American and British - torn from their ordinary lives to train as agents in Camp X: an ultra-secret training facility on the shores of Lake Ontario".
"Our agents parachute behind enemy lines, where they're fair game for torture and execution. From elegant hotels to hell-holes in the field, it's one risky operation after another, masterminded by the brains of Camp X. Sabotage, bombs, arming and training guerrilla fighters, rescue operations, deception campaigns, even assassination: we feel, up close and intimate, both the adrenaline joyride and the dirty-hands nightmare as shining ideals collide with the emotional realities of fighting a war where no rules apply."
Concerning the gritty adventures we are allowed to watch, "Inspired by remarkable true stories, X Company is about the origin of spycraft. It's an aspirational world, combining glamour, grit, and gadgets. It's about the birth of mass propaganda, the first fights against terror, and the heroes that led the charge to change our world."
The director of Camp X and the man responsible for training the quintet of operatives and directing their actions in the field is Duncan Sinclair, a solemn man with a shaved head who is likely in his late 50s. "Sinclair has two sons fighting overseas. Ollie has been killed during an attack, and William is missing in action, presumably downed in the Pacific. Sinclair is in contact with a German General, whom we met during the first World War; their families developed a close relationship during the interwar period, and their sons had gone fishing together before." We are told that he is a sharpshooter, a specialist in deception and misinformation (lies) and is exceptional in his skills at planning.
The five members of the main team (others may come and go) are:
Aurora Luft - Canadian - "Born to a French-Canadian mother and Jewish-German father Aurora grew up fluently trilingual, along side her language skills her specialization in strategy and field work prove invaluable to the team. Alfred Graves - Canadian - Has "a rare condition called Synesthesia, remembers everything he sees (it is also implied that his memory applies not only to what he sees but what he hears, feels, etc.). Alfred also ranks extremely high on the Intelligence scale." He made a living before the War as a 'Master of Memory' performing on the stage in Canada. He is especially good a codebreaking.
Neil Mackay - British - Prior to the War, Mackay had been a police officer in London though he had been stationed for a while in Shanghai where after barely surviving a very nasty attack learned a local style of martial arts prevalent there. He is a loner especially after his family was killed during the Blitz.
Tom Cummings - American - He had worked in advertising on Madison Avenue before the War and had taken part in planning a strategy to convince Americans of the evil of the Nazis. When America entered the War, he was recruited to become part of X Company. Cummings uses his skills of persuasion to be in charge of propaganda and local recruitment. He is also an expert in forgery.
Harry James - Canadian - He is the youngest member of the team, picked for the team while still attending university where he majored in chemistry and engineering. He is a skilled ham radio enthusiast and is a whiz at creating interesting and very useful gadgets for the team.
