Clement Wisdom is an Anglican vicar.
He is also a part-time agent for MI6; actually a very special one. At least he will become one, responding favorably to the very unusual request made of him which will change his life.
When we meet him in the first recorded adventure, he is the vicar of "All Saints Anglican Church, Fearnley Maughton, East Sussex", happily married for quite a few years and fairly certain that his career had reached its pinnacle. He had been the vicar for more than twenty years and was fully certain he would be doing the same job for those years remaining before forced retirement or death, that and tend his beloved garden at his cottage home. Then came the odd call from an archdeacon, one that would change his entire life.
We are introduced to Wisdom in early Fall of 1940. The War with Germany had heated up with the Blitz just beginning and those in charge were certain that prior to a large troop invasion, there would be numerous incursions by individual agents or small groups of saboteurs landing on the shores to wreak havoc. The Auxiliary Units were created in that year in response to the impending threat of a German invasion of Great Britain. It will be to not only join such a Unit but to lead his local group that Wisdom is called. It seems that the archdeacon has another job - a major player in the refurbished British Intelligence apparatus.
After the events told in that first adventure, especially when dealing with the injuries suffered then as well as a terrible personal loss, Wisdom will find his old life gone forever. Add in the fact that Wisdom proved to be quite resourceful and very useful to MI6 and we will see him being called upon for service quite a bit different than those he used to deliver from the pulpit.
