ABOUT THE SERIES

Bruce and Lloyd are tech geeks.

My term for them, which should be alright since I have been a tech geek myself for decades. Like like Bruce and Lloyd, of course, because these guys know a whole lot more than I do and are always inventing super cool stuff that sometimes work just like they are supposed to and even when there are glitches, they are pretty impressive on their own.

So the important thing to remember is that these two are meant for the lab, thinking up and designing and building and testing way cool stuff that agents can use out in the field to watch and listen to and follow the bad guys, even sneaking into bad guy lairs and stealing secret stuff and taking it back to headquarters. They are not meant to go out into the field - ever. They have no training for it, no aptitude for it, no real interest in it (if they take the time to think about what could happen to them out there). They need to stay geeks in the lab.

But then they will find themselves out in the danger-zone and having to do all sorts of dangerous things that will certainly get them killed. Not what they planned at all.

Bruce is of Japanese descent. Lloyd is as white as you can be. Both definitely look geeky and neither look the list bit ready to engage in anything more physical than attacking lunch. Now, we all learn that at times looks can be deceiving so maybe I could be wrong about that, but then again most of the time, things are exactly what they look like. One of the fun things about the Bruce and Lloyd adventures is we get to watch and decide for ourselves.

Oh, you may have noticed that I have not mentioned the last names of either of these fellows. The reason is, I have no idea what they are. So, they remain Bruce and Lloyd.

Now back to the tech whiz part of Bruce and Lloyd and the super-cool stuff they come up with which mostly work, like the stun gun that just makes victims giggle, and a crowd control ray which sorta makes people's hair fall out. These guys are definitely geniuses who just can't quite nail it. Until they come up with the invisibility cloak. Super awesome. Minor battery issue. Still cool! They are going to need it when they are forced into action!

Good Lines:
- Said by the Under-chief to Bruch and Lloyd, "Good Lord, we're in the spy business! Learn to lie better!"

MY COMMENTS

When I saw the remake movie for Get Smart, I was amused and entertained and thought that Steve Carell did a pretty good job as a hapless Maxwell Smart and Anne Hathaway was terrific as Agent 99. I was also quite pleased with the numerous other actors, including the two playing bumbling tech geeks.

I did not know until a frequent contributor to this site told me about it that there was this follow-on direct-to-video movie made right after. I was intrigued enough to pay a few bucks to stream the film and was again pleased by the cast and the writing. Silly, over-the-top, stereotypical, yes, but fun. I am a big Masi Oka fan.
