Aydin Torkal, aka Sleeper 13, is a vigilante.
He did not set out to be one and those who trained him so diligently to be a killing machine obviously never thought that their lessons would someday be turned against them when Torkal decided he had had enough of their control. As the tagline for the first recorded adventure so aptly puts it: "He was their deadliest weapon. Now they are his target".
Torkal had been born with the first name of Aydin but as he enters his years of intense instruction in killing, he is given the name 'Talatashar' (Arabic for the number '13'). It was assigned to him the The Teacher, the man who would for many years be in charge of his constant training.
It had started when Torkal was nine years old. A couple of promos for these adventures mention his being 'taken' from his family, consisting of a father and mother and a twin sister, but that was misleading. The taker was his Turkish father who had flown he and the boy to Kandahar for the specific purpose of handing the youth over to the terrorist group. It would be a very unpleasant start to the next decade of Torkal's life.
We first encounter Torkal in Paris in 2018. He is sharing an apartment with a fellow named Khaled, his handler and most certainly not someone Torkal would consider a friend. The time was rapidly approaching when Torkal would be ordered to take part in yet another insane act of terrorism, killing innocent people in the war to undermine the West's resolve and to hasten the day that the followers of Allah would instill shari'ah law, or at least their interpretation of it. Torkal had been for days working out some way to break away from his controllers and to no longer be a part of something he did not - had not ever - believed in. The day we meet him is that day.
In those days that Torkal had thought about fleeing, simply getting away had been all he had wanted, that and perhaps a chance to reunite with his mother and sister. The event that pushed him into action would change that; he now wanted to use his many skills and considerable training to destroy The Teacher and his group.
Playing a major role eventually in the actions of Torkal is Rachel Cox of MI6 who was interested in Torkal's situation long before they ever met and who, once they did come together, decided Torkal was someone who might make a difference and perhaps she could help.
