Johnny Worricker is an agent with MI5.
He has been with that organization for many years, all his adult working life to be honest, and as he rapidly approaches retirement age, he wonders what, if anything, comes next for him. When he gets pulled into a highly secret investigation of matters even more hush-hush, and when others involved in this matter seem to suddenly die, he wisely changes his ponderings to be whether he will actually live long enough to retire.
Since the main purpose of MI5 is to seek out internal threats to stability of the U.K. and because Worricker is a very intelligent, inciteful, and clever individual, he has made a name for himself with the organization; all this despite having a very subdued and low-keyed personality with more than a touch of shyness. He is sophisticated and educated and possessed of a wide knowledge of things. He has a natural tendency to observe rather than take charge which tends to make people believe he is a follower willing to do what he is told. Such beliefs are inaccurate.
Worricker may not have a family but he definitely has his loves. He adores modern art and jazz. He has for many years slowly amassed his private collection of paintings that he is particularly proud of. When trouble presents itself and his life is put into danger and he knows he must go into hiding at least for a time, leaving his possesses will cause him sorrow as they are all he really has. However, before you become too sad for his state, it is important to not that he has not always been a loner and one of his former lovers, the still beautiful and alluring Margot Tyrell will come back into his life and play a new major role in it.
