T.J. Cochran is a private investigator.
He is one with an unusual source for clients - the U.S. government.
"I earn my daily bread as an investigator out of Washington, D.C. My specialty is working for various government committees and sub-committees, both at state and federal level, that have need of investigative services. One qualification. There ae some committees who couldn't hire me if they tried. I'm in my business to make money and provide a service some times necessary to achieve needed legislation. There have been times I have circumvented the stricter regulations applicable to a policeman or federal agent. But I'm neither a character assassin nor an informer."
That is what he tells us shortly into the first recorded adventure. He does the relating as he was on a puddle-jumping flight to Miami and the young, very nervous young woman next to him informs him she is a reluctant part of a planned hijacking of the Convair airliner they were on. She wanted Cochran, a total stranger to her before this, to help prevent the take-over and Cochran, without batting much of an eye, does just that. This gives us an excellent look inside the man.
The period of time of these adventures is the first half of the 60s, shown by the fact that hijackings were still a very new occurance - and smoking on the plane was not only allowed but was also fairly standard.
