Maggie Park is a part-time agent for SKUL.
That unusual acronym stands for the Secret Keepers of the Universal Laws. I admit that I am a bit in the dark about these Universal Laws as Park does not go to any trouble explaining them as she recounts her adventures. While she tells us it is a "little-known division of Interpol" and she acts like it is nothing particularly new to her, we have to accept that she already knew about it long before she began to work off-and-on with them. The most she tells us is that "as a part of Interpol, it was a big spy division to keep the United States a safe place". I would throw in that SKUL seems to have a major issue with Mystic Couture which is a very large international cosmetic company but I think that would confuse things even more.
Now back to Park. Park is a witch. That is no personal commentary on her personality. She is an actual witch. She is 28 years old and she works a daily shift at The Brew, the family diner (open for breakfast and lunch only) in Louisville, Kentucky. She works there for her mother and her Aunt Meme, alongside her sister Lilith, because she has yet to have found her life's journey; in her parlance she has not had the Witchy Hour which is the sudden epiphany which would reveal what she was meant to be for the rest of her life. So instead she works at the diner, clearing dishes and taking orders and delivering food, and being bored a lot of the time.
To help you understand the type of witch Park is, imagine Samantha Stevens from Bewitched fame, just as pretty but with black hair instead of blonde. This is no leaning over a cauldron tossing in eye balls while mumbling spooky chants; this is wave a hand and have reality shift to what you desire. Or snap your fingers instead of twitching an upper lip, in the case of Park. The rest of her female family are witches as well, trying to live what looks to everyone else like normal lives while enjoying the kind of powers that each of them possesses.
So there we have it. Park is waiting tables while waiting for her Witchy Hour to tell her what she should be doing with her life and into the diner walks the majorly hunky and dreamy Mick Jagger (no, not that one) and he is an agent for SKUL and through one little misunderstanding or two, Park gets inadvertently involved in the case that Jagger is on and suddenly that epiphany happens - mostly - and Park knows that her calling will be connected to Jagger and SKUL and life is definitely not going to be the same. Mind you, she still will be working at the diner but she will help Jagger here and there, hence the part-time agent.
Oh, one extra little fact I really want to throw in. Witches, at least the kind that Park and her family are, have familiars, usually cats like Riule who is Park's mother's. Park's familiar is different; her familiar is Vinnie, who is a car. A 1965 red AC Cobra, to be exact (I looked it up and that car is a beaut! A sleek two-seater convertible sports car). It is really, really cool and I want one.
