Randolph Lowe is an agent with MI5.
Lowe does a considerable about of foreign travel on behalf of his agency, odd for a department devoted to Britain's internal security. When he is abroad, he uses the cover of a salesman bottled water under the brand name of Foreign Spring; "bottled water was something every nation needed. It was boring and entirely uninteresting; perfect for intelligence officers working undercover".
Lowe is 46 years old when we meet in the first recorded adventure - 51 in the second of the two tales we have of him. He has become of the last few years a night owl - or practically a vampire as he sometimes thinks of himself - and when he sleeps, it is with one hand on a pistol under his pillow. "His natural suspicion of everyone and everything he came into contact with had left him paranoid; a downside to the job, but one he had learned to live with."
This exaggerated sense of concern will make him an interesting candidate to be put on the trail of Stella.
In truth this series should be a partnership of sorts as the other half of this couple is that Stella. According to the dossier that Lowe is shown about her before they actually meet, she is of medium height and weight, which tells us nothing, and that she is "tidy and classy" which says a bit more but not much. To most people, and especially to Lowe from the moment he was handed her dossier, she possessed exceptional beauty. One other detail that is more informative is that this blonde-haired woman "looked more like an A-class Hollywood actress than an MI5 target".
And target is exactly what she is to Lowe at first. It will be after he goes after her and catches up with her that they both realize working together is going to be a whole lot better for their survival chances than going after each other. Especially when you consider the fact that the reason Lowe is sicced on her in the first place is that she is a very accomplished assassin.
Lowe was not certain why he was put on the trail of Stella and his confusion will get even more pronounced when some of the very strange things about to happen to him, and her, start. The kind of enemy the two will be soon fighting is unlike anything he had ever encountered.
