ABOUT THE SERIES

Pierce Hunt is an agent with the DEA.

Normally a Special Agent of that dedicated government organization would not be a candidate for membership in this compendium but Hunt earns a spot because of his unplanned and largely unexpected cooperation in a couple of combined CIA/DEA task forces.

Our initial meeting of him has him leading a rapid response team (RRT) for the DEA and enjoying what he is doing. Hunt has an admitted love of excitement and the thrill of the chase and being a RRT member gives him plenty of both. Additionally, Hunt has a special hatred of drug dealing since his younger brother had overdosed fifteen years before. He knows he is certain to not be able to stop the trade but if he can somehow help some other families from suffering such a loss, he was willing to try.

Hunt's career will take a significant change as a result of the first recorded adventure, through no fault of his, and he will find himself wondering what was next for him. That is when his former boss at the DEA will call again and ask him to help out in a matter and it is at that point that his dealing with the Agency start up.

He will find his area of operation will switch from RRT attacks in big cities inside the States to work with a small task force in foreign lands in South America and Europe. He will also find that the dangers have increased tremendously because the terrain is so different and the players largely unknown.

Hunt is likely in his mid-40's with a ex-wife and a daughter he adores but does not see nearly often enough. Prior to his work with the DEA, Hunt had been part of the Rangers in the U.S. Army and had worked on at least one high-profile joint mission with Delta Force in the Middle East.

Good Line:
- When approached by Hunt's former boss offering a side job, Hunt comments on the forced severance to which the man says, "Yes, but that's exactly why you're the perfect person for the job."
- Man's question: "How would you react if you'd found a picture of your daughter's half-naked boyfriend on her cell phone?" Woman's answer: "It depends what half is naked."

MY COMMENTS

These are three (so far) terrifically written action thrillers with enough spy-fi in them to more than qualify for membership here. It is important to remember going into them, though, that they are primarily DEA-centric with the CIA part something that Hunt has to deal with more than wants to be a part of.

Hunt is a solid go-to guy who can get knocked down (and does) but will always find a way to get back up and the author makes reading about him a lot of fun in both directions.

I really enjoyed the man's other spy series so I was confident I would enjoy this one as well. I was right.
