Ethan Galaal is an agent with the DIA.
As we learn early on in the first recorded adventure, "officially, he didn't exist. Unofficially, he worked directly for [the DIA] as an independent contractor. His work usually involved multiple roles, and blurred the lines between case officer, private investigator, kidnapper and assassin. The latter seemed to be the work he was involved with the most these days, though he was never actually allowed to use the word assassination in official reports - the DIA preferred the term 'High Value Targeting.'" Galaal was very good at those.
While Galaal is "independent" and could be asked to work for any of the handlers the DIA might have need of him, he spends most of his time working under the direction of a highly trained and very experienced agent named Samantha 'Sam' Rond. Though still fairly young, she was high enough on the chain to be able to put together her own team and key to that team was Galaal. The admiration they each have for the other is immense; they have both been in situations out in the field where their lives depended on each other.
Blessed with tanned olive skin so when he went unshaven and grew a beard, he was able to easily fit in on virtually any street in the Middle East. With a solid grasp of Arabic and the skill to speak with different dialects and accents, Galaal was not only able to operate as a warrior, he was extremely proficient undercover and so is put in those situations often. Such work is extremely dangerous because it means that he is often totally on his own.
He admits to himself that while the pay he makes is good, "it wasn't about the money. Doing something that no one else could do-going undercover, infiltrating enemy camps, and wreaking havoc in the name of freedom and justice-well, that was what Ethan lived for".
