Bradley 'Jake' Crabtree is an agent with the Defense Intelligence Agency.
When we meet him in what is marked as a prequel taking place in 2002, we learn he has been an agent with them for the last seven years, since leaving college as a sophomore to go into government service with the DIA like his father before him.
He is described as: "Compact, strong and handsome without the pretty-boy good looks of a movie star, Bradley "Jake" Crabtree was able to blend into a public scene easily. He got his share of appraisals from women, who were captured by his warm "genuine" smile, even white teeth and fine, soft brown hair. His dark, somewhat ruddy complexion, cleft chin and solid-but-not-blockish head bespoke power, not aggression. His was the face of a star defensive end, a recruiting poster for Special Forces, and the solid good looks every mother wants in a son-in-law."
At that last part, he would show considerable relief because he was not ready for marriage and the type of life he lead, and loved to lead, would not be fair to any woman. That life involves being almost constantly on the go with several tours of duty to Israel, his mother's birthplace and one he grew up hearing about, along with one side of the Jewish/Arab conflict.
The reader will be able to follow several adventures of Crabtree as he goes up against terrorists out to harm his country with particular emphasis on a couple of very nasty children of Bin Laden. Then the career path with change considerably as the results of one event but his overall mission of fighting to keep his land safe never changes.
