Jonathon Stone is an agent with the CIA.
Exactly how long Stone has been with the Agency is not mentioned though from the way he describes things, it has been a fair number of years and most of that time has not been idly waiting for action. Stone is the sort of operative that attracts danger and excitement to him.
In his own introduction to us, Stone explains that he has as his primary cover being "a writer for the Real Sportsman Magazine". It is just a cover though he tells us that the phone number on his business card rings in the office of his CIA boss and the secretary there knows how to handle things from there. Stone goes on to tell that "being a writer seems to afford a realistic, workable cover" and while there may be times it could make someone question why a sports reporter might be asking questions at, say, a murder scene, no one has yet bothered.
Stone tells us that he is assigned to a special department inside the Agency known as the Domestic Operation - Terrorism (DOT), more exactly the Far East Operation Center "located in an undisclosed location in Long Beach, California. His boss in this group is a man named Russ Evans, someone that Stone has known for a long time and become close friends with. "He was my first boss when I joined the CIA right out of the service. We were in Europe then, stationed in Algiers. He was an excellent leader. At one time he had been in charge of the CIA Western European operations. He had moved rapidly up the CIA's organizational ladder, now holding the title, Far East Section Chief. He is based in our San Francisco offices." It was Evans that ordered the creation of the DOT's southern office. "Our direction was to take care of any open assignments in the U.S. that had originated out of the country. The CIA wanted to make sure there were no loose ends left by DHS."
According to Stone, the DOT is not on any of the Company's organization charts, though he does work regularly with other governmental agencies, especially the FBI.
Stone tells us that he is "an avid hunter and gun collector. My hobbies include restoring old guns, fooling around with computers and gambling and the ladies". We never see much of his gun hobby and only some with computers but his love of gambling and the ladies is confirmed over and again. Stone loves being a ladies' man but there seems little doubt that he is biggest love, and likely his biggest problem, is his love of gambling.
