Born Virginia Ruth Egnor in West Virginia, the model and actress moved to New York where her husband was stationed as a Naval officer. She took modelling jobs to keep busy and help pay the bills and it was while doing that she was encouraged to try out for a comedic role in vaudeville. This led to stints on television with some of the best like Bob Hope and Milton Berle.
