According to Lambiek's Comicopedia: "The British comic artist George Martin has worked extensively for the humour titles published by DC Thomson from the 1950s throughout the 1980s. He is also well-known for his long-running comic strip 'Bunion', syndicated in newspapers throughout Britain and abroad (Canada, Sweden, etc.) in the 1960s and 1970s.

Martin was present in The Topper with 'Captain Bungle' (1953-60), 'Smart Art' (1953), 'King Gussie' (1957), 'Julius Cheeser' (1957-68), 'Send for Kelly' (1961-), 'Arty' (1964), 'Customs of the Month' (1964), 'Old Batty' (1964), 'Ali Babble' (1966), 'The Bright Boys' (1967), 'Angry Ladd' (1968), 'Ali and his Magic Carpet' (1968), 'Super Specs' (1971), 'Dreamboat Bill' (1972) and 'Whistling Billy' (1973). Martin was also responsible for the cover artwork of several editions of the The Topper Book.
