According to the bio on his website: "I’m Michael Buckley. I write for kids who don’t like to read because I used to be one.

When I was a kid books bored me, and worse, they felt like homework. Tons of well-meaning adults tried to spark an interest in reading, they promised it would change and improve my life, but I couldn’t relate to anything they handed me. The stories were never about kids like me in worlds I recognized. If it hadn’t been for my elementary school librarian taking a special interest in me, I might never have learned that books don’t have to be dull. Books can be fun, exciting, hilarious, and still be full of heart and valuable messages. Because of that librarian, my whole life was changed. I discovered James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl, The Mouse and the Motorcycle by Beverly Cleary, and A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle, and countless others. From that day on, the library stopped being a place I avoided, but rather a treasure room full of hidden gems. When the door of opportunity opened for me to write for children, I promised myself that I would try to do for kids what my librarian did for me so many years ago - introduce them to books they WANT to read. 

This year I celebrate my 20th published book. Each one of them is full of suspense, adventure, heart, laughs, and messages meant to show kids that they have value, that there is hope in the world, and that learning a little about how to be a good person can still be fun. "
