T. C. H. JACOBS

Born in Plymouth, England, Thomas Curtis Hicks Jacobs was, according to Wikipedia, "is a British author of detective novels , western novels and spy novels which he always signs TCH Jacobs or pseudonyms Jacques Pendower , Tom Curtis and Penn Dower . Under the pseudonyms Kathleen Carstairs , Helen Howard , Marilyn Pender and Anne Penn , he also published romance novels.

He was educated in his home town of Plymouth. From the age of 16, he published short western stories. In 1917, just before the end of World War I , he enlisted in the British Army. He was taken prisoner in 1918, but managed to escape. He will not be demobilized until 1921 with the rank of second lieutenant.

He married in 1925. He wrote his novels at night and worked during the day as a customs inspector until 1950. After that date, he devoted himself solely to writing.

Under the pseudonym of Jacques Pendower, he wrote spy novels, some of which featured Agent Slade McGinty. Under the pseudonyms of Tom Curtis and Penn Dower, he wrote several western novels and, under his feminine pseudonyms, a dozen sentimental novels.

In 1953, he was a founding member of the Crime Writers Association  , serving as its president in 1960–61.
