ALBERT VANDEPUT

According to Lambiek Comiclopedia: "Born in London, Albert Vandeput was an artist of Dutch origins. He attended the Royal Academy and then became the art and sports master at St. Francis Xavier College in Liverpool, where he worked between 1939 and 1950. He was doing his first comic work in the early 1950s, doing several 'Roy of the Rovers' stories, as well as 'Mystery Ice-Ace of the Arrows', for Amalgamated's Tiger. In 1960 he began a collaboration with D.C. Thomson. He made many sports comics for the publisher, starting with 'Dozy Danny - Football Star in the Making' for New Hotspur and 'Come Away the United' for The Victor.


Throughout the 1960s several new stories followed, such as 'Jake's Giant Killers', 'The Team that Jack built', 'Gorgeous Gus', 'The Team of the Doomed', 'Brampton Keys' and 'Limp Along Leslie'. He also designed the D.C. Thomson pop-up characters 'Wilson - the Wonder Athlete' and 'The Wolf of Kabul'. He additionally published 'Brian's Brain' for Odhams' SMASH! His brother Dave Vandeput was also a comic artist."
