Jack Lane has been ordered to Paris by American Intelligence to report to a man named 'M' and Myra North is accompanying him. On the train, Lew Wen joins them. Wen tells Lane that 'every civilized nation is have its representative here for secret conference'. Country 'X' (sic) is threatening the other countries with "a colossal, movable fortress, actually capable of destroying everything in its path". Myra North was not content to just wait in the hotel for Lane and gets herself taken prisoner in that very same gigantic tank.
