ABOUT THE SERIES

Dan Track is an agent with American military intelligence.

Growing up on the south side of Chicago, raised by an older sister after his parents dies, Track learned to survive by fighting. This meant joining a gang and taking part in gang-related activities and this brought him into court where an offer was made to serve time or serve the country. He chose the latter.

Once the regimen of the military took over, Track learned that he could learn and he liked it. First came his G.E.D. and then several years of college during evening courses. His high IQ and his drive got him noticed, resulting in promotion into the officers ranks and eventual entry into their CID branch. When he finally retired from the military, he had the rank of Major.

Though now a civilian as the series starts, Track is still working closely with the government as well as with a major insurance underwriter, a powerful British billionaire named Sir Abner Chesteron, a man with interests around the globe in need of someone like Track. In this capacity, Dan Track finds himself involved in a wide range of assignments all over the world. He also is a much-requested trainer in S.W.A.T. maneuvers, giving special classes to police forces and military groups.

The main emphasis of the series' beginning is the hunt for one hundred nuclear weapons stolen by a renegade Soviet officer. Assisting Track in his quest for these bombs is the beautiful and resourceful Desiree, a smuggler and arms-dealer who confronts Track in the prologue of the first book and finds herself involved in the mission. It does not take long for Track and Desiree to fall in love and become a very potent weapon when working together.

MY COMMENTS

Aside from the fact that it is very difficult to figure out exactly who Track works for most of the time, these adventures are just a lot of fun to read. There is no great insight into motivation or character analysis. There is just a bunch of real bad guys being fought by a real good guy. Sometimes simplicity just works!

Mr. Ahern is an acknowledged expert when it comes to weaponry so when he says that a character used a particular weapon and it acted a certain way, you can be certain that the information is solid, giving an extra level of realism to the tales.
