ABOUT THE SERIES

Sector V is a team of agents for KND.

That stands for Kids Next Door, a global organization made up of tweens operating out of their own headquarters in the neighborhoods in which the members live. Their mission is to combat crimes against children, noble and worthwhile sounding until you realize these horrible infractions are things like making them do homework or - gasp! - flossing! Even worse, doing chores!!!. The terrible "evil-doers" are often parents, other adults, and the occasional teenagers who get tagged as such. And sometimes the offenders are other children who live down the block.

Once KND picks the kids for the sector, the newbies go through a period of training before being given their first missions. They then are on call at any time of the day - though after school and weekends are best - from that moment until they reach manditory retirement age of 13. At that time they are decommissioned which means having their memories wiped of all knowledge of their previous activities as well as the existence of the KND program in the first place. Note: there are a very few exceptions to this mind-erasure but they are extremely rare.

As we read in an excellent description on Wikipedia: "KND agents utilize a vast array of mechanical, electronic gadgets, weapons, and machinery, collectively referred to as 2x4 (two-by-four) technology. The KND's 2x4 technology was originally conceived as being constructed from an assortment of objects, mostly common household ones. However, as the series progressed, the kind of objects their technology was constructed from became bigger, consisting of things such as large vehicles and small buildings. Not only that, but the complexity of their technology, such as their defensive weaponry and means of transportation, advanced to such absurd levels as to be considered science fiction, despite all of it still being constructed from nothing but an assortment of objects."

Sector V has 5 members, each identified by a codename which is a clever-ish "Numbuh" followed by, well, a number. These agents are:

Numbuh 1 - Nigel Uno - The leader and head operative of Sector V.
Numbuh 2 - Hogarth Pennywhistle "Hoagie" Gilligan, Jr. - The best friend of Numbuh 1, the joke-cracking engineer and 2x4 Technology Officer of Sector V.
Numbuh 3 - Kuki Sanban - The happy-go-lucky tactician and medic of Sector V.
Numbuh 4 - Wallabee "Wally" Beetles - The brash combatant of Sector V.
Numbuh 5 - Abigail "Abby" Lincoln - The intelligent, relaxed second-in-command/spy of Sector V.

Several of these members have siblings who will be designated as enemy operatives, some of whom are members of the dangerous evil gang known as the Teen Ninjas. The most feared and most fought enemy is "Father", the "adoptive" parent of the ever-troublesome Delightful Children From Down The Lane (oh, the things I could tell you about them!!).

From 2002 to 2007, 6 seasons, Cartoon Network enjoyed the success of the television cartoon show Codename: Kids Next Door. 13 episodes were created for each of those seasons for a total of 78 regular season episodes. Many of those episodes, not all, had two different adventures (denoted below in the listing as "a" and "b") for 137 regular season adventures.

Episode S1-1a, first aired 12/06/2002 Director: Randy Myers Writers: Mr. Warburton, Mo Willems Important – Steal Creamy Refrigerated Edibles – Avoid Meltdown The group catches wind of some ice cream men who refuse to give ice cream to children, so they interrogate them and get the password to their ice cream factory, only to be in for a major surprise from the Delightful Children from Down the Lane, because the ice cream that they take turns into a monster that tries to eat them, but eventually gets defeated by a heater that was turned on by Numbuh 3.

2	Operation: C.A.N.N.O.N. Episode S1-1b, first aired 12/06/2002 Director: Robert Alvarez Writers: Mo Willems, Mr. Warburton Cannon and Nap-time Not Occurring Normally Numbuh 4 forces the other operatives to build a clam cannon when Numbuh 1 leaves.

Episode S1-9, first aired 01/31/2003 Director: Sue Perrotto Writer: Mr. Warburton Capturize and Kidnapify Enemy Dessert The Kids Next Door attempt to stop a birthday party for their arch-enemies, the Delightful Children from Down the Lane. The task is made complicated by the presence of The Big Badolescent, a girl who grows alarmingly in size and strength when she does not get her way. *Note: This episode is only seven minutes long and is paired with Diseasy Does It and No P in the Ool when aired. Although the episode is also chronologically the first, it was not the first episode aired. Operation: I.-S.C.R.E.A.M. and Operation: C.A.N.N.O.N., the second produced episodes, aired as the series premiere on 12/6/2002, while this episode didn't air until 01/31/2003.

The restaurant is later revealed to actually be for sharks, with kids being murdered for food.

Episode S2-5a, first aired 10/31/2003 Director: Rick Leon Writers: Mr. Warburton, Mo Willems Southern Hair Attacks Virtually Everyone The KND investigate why people are getting mustaches. They end up showdowning the head mustache, but they're in for a surprise of who's to blame.

34	Operation: O.O.M.P.P.A.H. Episode S2-5b, first aired 10/31/2003 Director: Joanna Romersa Writers: Mr. Warburton, Mo Willems Obnoxious Overzealous Male Parent Plays Annoying Horn Numbuh 1's dad is grabbed by a fishing line along with other dads on the lake, and pulled up to some kid's house above the water. He decides that Numbuh 1's dad is his new dad, so Numbuh 1 battles it out with the sousaphone-playing dork for his father.

35	Operation: F.L.A.V.O.R. Episode S2-6a, first aired 11/07/2003 Director: Guy Moore Writers: Mo Willems, Mr. Warburton Find Lost Ancient Variety Of Refreshment Numbuh 5 is kidnapped and sent to a temple to find a mystical flavor of ice-cream known as The Fourth Flavor for the DCFDTL. She dreams to have a chance at tasting the long-lost flavor herself, for only those with pure taste buds 05/taste it.

However, in their attempt to get the recipe, an ice cream trap was set off, freezing over 5000 KND Operatives. It took 10 years to thaw them out, and all were decommissioned since they were technically too old to be KND. All were found except Numbuh 19th Century, the operative sent in to get the recipe and set off the trap, until the current KND recently discovered him. After being thawed out, he's confused by the new modern era, especially with the fact there are now girls in the KND.

MY COMMENTS

I watched my ten-year-old daughter watching this show back when it first came out. I was not happy with the artwork whatsoever - that style still leaves me cold and wondering whatever happened to good artists. Anything from Hanna-Barbera or Loony Tunes, that sort of thing. The goofy-headed kids next door were ... unpleasant to watch. For me. For her, not sure it mattered.

The stories, though, were a different matter. I as a grown-up and the parent of a tween was not thrilled (not yet an old-timer but obviously well on my way) with the way that we were the bad guys and these punk kids where .... deep breaths!

And yet the inventiveness was impressive. And obviously since the show lasted as long as it did and my daughter watched a grunch of them, well, what do I know!!
