ABOUT THE SERIES

Counterstrike is a private anti-terror squad.

It is totally unofficial and without any governmental backing whatsoever which will add a major level of difficulty and danger to any mission. The leader and financial benefactor for this team plus the three members of the field staff are fully aware of this and accept the risk.

That leader is Alexander Addington, an internationally renowned and respected industrialist who was enjoying his billions in wealth when terrorists attacked he and his wife. She was kidnapped and subsequently murdered which caused the 60+ year-old man to make a solemn pledge, "I swear eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man." Furthering that dedication, each recorded adventure of this group contains Addington's decree, "We must fight evil, no matter where, no matter when, no matter what the cost".

To accomplish this, Addington approached several trained and capable people. They are:

- Peter Sinclair: recruited from the ranks of Scotland Yard detectives where he was famous for being the youngest in the history of that institution, Sinclair is determined to get each mission accomplished but his many years as an enforcer of the law has him sometimes baulking at his employer's 'whatever it takes' mentality.

- Nikki Beaumont: A beautiful French woman who, prior to being asked to join the team, made a lucrative living as a con artist. Her acting skills, plus her impressively good looks, help set up several bad apples to take a fall.

- Luke Brenner: a quite debonair soldier-of-fortune who is said to be "intense and impatient" but who comes across quite calm until the action begins.

After over a score of missions, both Beaumont and Brenner leave the team and are replaced by two others:

- Gabrielle Germont: a world-renouned investigative journalist now willing to put her life on the line for more than just the story.

- Hector Stone: an ex-Navy SEAL and former CIA operative who has a failure-is-never-an-option attitude towards each assignment.

MY COMMENTS

I remember the first couple of episodes when this series initially was aired. Then I met the wonderful woman who would be insane enough to later marry me so I was busy spending less time in front of the television.

I do recall being fascinated by the powerful Alexander Addington portrayed by the incomparable Christopher Plummer. I liked Peter Sinclair. I was enchanted by Nikki Beaumont, played beautifully by Cyrielle Clair.

How much of the last of the first season I say I cannot recall and by the time the second and third seasons were on, I was married with a family to occupy most of my time.

I am enjoying revisiting this show and would not mind finding those missing seasons to learn what I missed, especially since the plot lines clearly show a good variety and let us look into the lives of the characters more than superficially.
