Now in the Red Cross Service at Harum, the capital of the West African nation of Urbania, recently at war with one of the Great Powers over its rich diamond mines, Myra North is distress when she believe Jack Lane is killed in a bombing raid that destroys the hospital. The attending physician, Dr. Devries, is a bit too friendly with North and tries to slip her a mysterious potion when she is not aware. Lane, not dead but investigating enemy movements, learns that Devries is really in the pay of Hyster and is trying to capture North on his behalf.
