ABOUT THE SERIES

Cassie McBaine, Deedra 'D.D.' Cummings, and Shane Phillips are agents with She Spies.

Actually that group does not really exist, as far as I can see. It is just the name of the set of recorded adventures of this trio. As we are told in the intro to the first mission, "They're three career criminals with one shot at freedom. They're working for the feds who put them away. These are the women of 'She Spies', bad girls gone good."

The three are coopted, according to Wikipedia, "for work as secret operatives for the US government under 'ComCent', a branch of the ISD [no idea what that is]." The plan had been put together by their handler, Jack Wilde, replaced later by Duncan Baleu. As Wilde explains it to them, for what sounds like the umpteenth time, "The three of you have been taken out of prison and are being asked to spy for the government".

In a spoof of the '65-'74 game show The Dating Game, we learn this information about the women:

"Spy Number One is a local girl made bad with elegant rich parents found success as a master thief and once crippled a man she claimed was trying to assault her...More than just a token African-American, she is proficient in Brazilian Ju-Jitsu and makes a wonderful peach cobbler. Say hello to Shane.

"Spy Number Two comes to us from Washington, D.C., where she was indicted on six counts of stealing state secrets from a government database. An expert in computer hacking and foreign languages, she loves volleyball and dancing the rumba. Say hello to D.D.

"And last but not least, Spy Number Three. Hailing from Aspen, Colorado, this former Phi Delta Gamma earned her trip to prison by conning millions of dollars from greedy bankers and CEO's. She loves slipping into other personas and walks on the beach. Let's give a big hand to Cassie."

These three women are experts in their own fields of criminality and together make up an impressive team to fight both other criminal organizations but also spies and traitors.

MY COMMENTS

This was a very silly spoof. It was intended to be one from the absolute get-go, which is a saving point for it because the key words to that first sentence are 'very silly'. It makes fun of so many spy tropes and has the decency to also make fun of itself.

I enjoy a good spoof but, unfortunately, I did not think this was a good one at all. The writing was too silly and the acting was, well, often not very good. All of this, of course, IMHO.

It did have three very enticing ladies as leads which is a good thing but I admit to watching the first few shows that aired on NBC and then did not bother to look for it on syndication.

Wikipedia's entry indicates that the 'spoofiness' was toned down a large amount for the second season. Since I have not seen those episodes yet, I do not know for myself but I am planning on giving some of them a chance because I would love to have my mind changed on this series.
