Tom and Lela Kennedy are teenage siblings.
Lela is the oldest, born just over a year before Tom to Saki and Tylanni, citizens of a small South Pacific island called Penaraja. Tom is the only child of Donald and Rachel Kennedy.
The two couples met when the Kennedy's, newlyweds on their honeymoon to the region, helped a very pregnant Tylanni. The act of kindness, unfortunately, would prove fatal for the Polynesian woman when a squad of paramilitary assassins attacked to kill Donald Kennedy. Though an act of bravery saved the life of her unborn child, it could not save Tylanni and she died shortly after giving birth.
Saki made a pledge to protect the Kennedy's as a result of their efforts to save his new daughter. When the couple returned to their homeland, he and his infant child went with them. Shortly after the incident, Rachel Kennedy became pregnant and nearly a year after the attack, Tom was born.
Though they were not related by marriage or blood, Tom and Lela were raised as siblings who just happened to have one mother and two fathers. In most ways they were ordinary kids. In a couple of ways they were rather unique.
For one, Donald Kennedy had over the years become one of the wealthiest men in the world. Bill Gates kind of rich. For another, Saki had been borne into a family of martial arts experts, trained from birth to be masters at fighting with hands, feet, and anything close to hand and Saki was one of the best.
Tom's intelligence nearly matches his father's. Lela's fighting skills approach her father's. Together the two siblings are not yet adults but they are pretty well grown-up.
