During the siege of Vicksburg in 1863, an ironclad was used to convey a special document to Washington but the vessel and document never arrived. In modern times, Sam Reilly is asked by a Senator to track down his son who disappeared while searching for something magical called the Meskwaki Gold Spring in Lake Superior. Reilly will find the two events are related.
